Students are expected to extend courtesy to all
teachers, staff, fellow students, parent/guardians, and visitors.
Respect for their own dignity and the dignity of every person,
learned in the classroom, is "lived" in their relationship
with others. They must treat their body and mind as temples of
God with a firm respect for others.
Discipline at Saramen Chuuk Academy is an aspect
of moral guidance and not a form of punishment. The purpose of
discipline is:
1. To provide a classroom eniroment conducive to
learning.
2. To promote a character training; e.g., to cultivate
the virtues that ensure right living and to redirect disorderly
tendencies.
In the event of serious misbehavior,parents will
be notified of the problem and are expected to cooperate fully
with the school in order to correct the situation. If the problem
continues, more serious disciplinary action will be taken.
1. There shall be no eating or drinking in
the Library, Computer Room, Science Lab, etc. at all times. Class
parties will require prior approval from the Principal.
2. Chewing gum or bringing gum to school is not
allowed on campus.
3. Students are not allowed to chew snuff and betelnut
on campus or during any school activity. [Bringing these to school
or to any school activity is prohibited.]
4. Smoking of cigarettes and tabacco substances,
including marijuana or any type of controlled substances is strictly
forbidden within the school premises, school buildings, school
grounds, adjacent public areas, and at any on-campus and off-campus
school functions, activities, events, dances or games.
5. Students may not leave the school grounds at
any time during the school day without written permission from
the Principal or Vice Pricipal.
6. No student may disrupt a class unnecessarily.
7. All students are responsible for the protection
and preservation of school property. Any student having knowledge
of positive or anticipated vadalism or defacing of school property
should report it to the office immediately.
8. Students are expected to use acceptable language
at all times and conduct themselves in a Christ like manner in
all they say and do.
9. Play equipment and lavatories are to be used
with safety and cleanliness in mind.
10. Silence is to be observed outside all the classrooms
during class time and exchange of classes. No running, playing
or loitering on the sidewalks.
11. Throwing of any injurious objects such as rocks,
stones, or sticks is prohibited.
12. Respectful behavior is expected from every student
in and out of the classroom, in church, and at any other areas
where students are present.
13. The teacher Rooms, Faculty Launch and the School
Office are exclusively for the use of the school personnel unless
permision is granted for student use. THese rooms are not for
students to loiter inor to use for personal reasons.
14. A neat personal appearance and good grooming
are encouraged adn expected of all students.
15. Students are not permitted to bring radios,
cassette players or ohter such equipment ot school unless prior
permission has been secured from the Principal or Vice Principal
of Student Affairs. If permision is granted, such appliances must
be ketp in the office until it is time to use them.
16. Saramen Chuuk Academy and its affiliates will
not be respinsible or liable for loss or damage to personal property
brought to school by student.
17. Students who stay after school for meetings,
practices, service to teachers, adn for any other reason must
have written permission from a parent or guardian to stay after
school or an official permission from the school, which has been
signed by a parent or recognized adult.
18. Students are responsible for all library fines,
lunch charges snack bar charges, and any other dues or fees required.
19. Students are discouraged from entertaining isiteors
for personal gain at anyh time unless officially approved by the
Principal or Vice Principal.
20. Students are responsible for keeping classrooms,
desk space, cabinets, restrooms and campus areas clean and free
of unsightly debris.
21. Students taking prescribed midication or durgs
must have written notification from a parent notifying the teacher
and main office. All medication should be left in the main office
for safekeeping. Students may call for the midication at required
time.
22. No shoes, slippers, sandals or any foot wear
allowed in the Computer Room, and the Library.
23. Sunglasses, hats or bandannas are not allowed
to be worn in the classrooms and must not be worn at any time
on campus.
24. Sitting on the rails outside the classrooms
on the second and third floors and outside the main office is
prohibited.
25. Only authorized students (Student officers)
are allowed to use sources of general information: blackboards,
bulletin boards, posters and signs.
26. The Holy Family Parish and the Studio building
are generally OFF LIMITS to students.
27. Students are not allowed to loiter outside the
church during recess or lunch hour.
English is the language of Saramen Chuuk Academy.
English must be spoken at all times by students, faculty and staff
during all school activities in order to increase ability to understand,
speak and write English easily.
Major Disciplinary Infractions
1. DRINKING AND DRUGS: Drinking
of alcoholic beverages, both imported and made locally or using
other illicit drugs is not permitted while a student is attending
Saramen Chuuk Academy. Violation of this regulation may result
in suspension or expulsion from the school.
2. FINGHTING: Fighting among
students will not be tolerated. Students caught fighting, using
foul language or behaving disrespectfully may be suspended or
expelled from the school. Students are not allowed to bring any
dangerous weapon to school or to school activities.
3. CHEATING: Students who are
caught cheating on assignments, tests, or exams will be reprimanded
by their teacher. If students are caught cheating or allowing
someone to copy from them a second time, they will be sent to
the Principal and may be suspended or expelled from the school.
4. STEALING: Taking something
without permission is considered an act of stealing. Students
found taking things without permission from another student, faculty
memberor from the school will be subject to punishment of suspension,
expulsion, or repayment of what was stolen.
5. VANDALISM: Vandalism is the
act of destroying something on purpose. Destroying school property
and/or property of students or faculty members will result in
disciplinary acton by the principal or teacher.
---Students are not allowed to write anything on the chairs or
walls or on any school properties.
---Astudnet must take food care of school property such as building
and equipment. Each student is responsible for the care of his/herown
books and desks.
6. TRUANCY: Skipping school or
required school activities is called truancy. If a student is
caught being truant he or she may be suspended or expelled from
school.
Serious Disciplinary Action
The school may require expulsion for a student due
to non-compliance with school rules or for conduct that detracts
from the school's functioning and his or her expulsion is reasonably
justified. Parents will always be counseled in cases when serious
disciplinary action is dealt to the student.
Dismissal From School
Because of the school's responsibility to parents,
students and the community, Saramen Chuuk Academy reserves the
right to exclude any student whose conduct or academic work is
seriously undesirable. There will be no refund of fees.
Unexcused Tardiness
Classes begin promptly at 8:00 AM after the second
bell has rung. If a student is tardy for a class (period 1-7)
by more than five minutes, then they must obtain an excuse slip
from the office. Five minutes is not excused and students will
be punished for being late. If a student is not in school by the
beginning of first period, then the school will call the parents
at home to see why.
Absence
Individual teachers must make their own attendance
policy for their classes. The administration requires that a studnt
returning to school after an absence must bring a note to the
office from his or her parent or guardian explaining the reason
for the absence. Studnets should not come back without a note.
Excessive absences will be referred to the principal.
Make-up work will be left to the discretion of the teacher. Note:
parents are asked to call the school office (330-4440) in the
morning when hteir child or children will be absent. This communication
will assist the school and parents in working together to deter
turancy.
Early Dismissal
Appointment cards or notes from parents must be presented to the
office before first period, in order to be listed on te attendance
chart with the time the student(s) is leaving. In this way the
teachers will be informed ahead of time and not have to check
with the office about the student's absence. If the students is
leaving with someone other than his or her parent or guardian,
he or she must also have a note from his or her parents giving
that person permission to pick the student up. Anyone taking students
out of school early must check in the office, and sign a student
out.
A student who becomes ill during school hours is sent to the office.
Parents are contacted immediately and asked to take the student
home. If illness occurs outside of class hours, a teacher should
be informed as soon as possible either directly of through the
school office. For extreme situations the school will provide
transportation to the hospital or call an ambulance once the parents
have been contacted.
Care of Textbooks, School Equipment and Property
Textbooks are issued to students at the beginning of the school
year and are identified numerically. All textbooks must be covered
for the duration of the school year. Care of these books is the
responsibility of the students. Fines are imposed for uncovered
textbooks.
Lost or damaged textbooks must be reported to the
teacher, and the person in charge of the textbooks must be informed.
The student may pay the current price of the textbook as well
as the shipping and handling cost. Only after this procedure is
followed can a replacement book be issued to the student.
All sports equipment, furniture, appliances, lavatory
fixtures, and the school builing in general are to be respected
and handled within the means they were made for. Writings, carvings,
defacements, or any type of vandalism will not be tolerated and
students caught in the act of destroying or vandalizing school
property will be held responsible for their actions.
In order to decrease financial expenses of the students
and to avoid unnecessary competition in the area of clothing,
the uniform is to be worn at school. Uniforms also signify the
school spirit of unity and oneness. Thus, all students must wear
uniforms with dignity and neatness during the school day and during
designated school activities. Uniforms can be purchased in the
school office.
Boys'Uniform Attire
-Long black pabts ad te uniform maroon polo shirt with the school
patch on the left pocket.
-Dressy black slacks or trousers are the acceptable uniform pants.
Black corduroys or "cords" are acceptable as long as
they aer not faded or having a "worn out" appearance.
Girls' Uniform Attire
-White blouse with the SCA Emblem on the lift pocket.
-A maroon skirt that should be knee-length and should not exceed
more than two inches above or below the knee.
-The unifrom white blouse and maroon skirt must be worn at all
times during school days.
Out of Uniform Policy
When an "out of uniform" event is permitted,
the student is reminded that the dress must be modest in every
respect. There are no acceptable excuses for being out of uniform
except on specific days when every student is participating. If
a student returns to school after an appointment, he or she is
expected to be in uniform.
Any student who comes to school out of uniform on a regular school
day si charged a $1.50 fine. Students who bring a written and
signed excuse not will be given consideration at the discretion
of the Vice Principal or Main Office.
Boys' hair should not touch the botton of the collar just above
the shoulder portion of the back of the neck and should not be
below their earlobes. Hair should be neatly trimmed and combed
at all times.
Though fashions are a "thing of today,"
certain hairstyles are not allowed. This prohibition includes
styles dealing with rat-tails, spikes, shaved portions, bleaching,
and other styles considered outlandish.
Girls' hair should be manageable and not cover the
face. Bangs should be neat and trimmed and not hang lower than
the eyebrows.
Hairs should be kept neat and clean. Hair
spray use is not encouraged but may be used to keep a hairstyle
in place. Hair sprays are not allowed in school nor its use in
school during class time or in the lavatories.
